Magic Scythe

I was fighting an enemy and died. Before I died, I unequipped my Magic Scythe, when I died I equipped the Magic Scythe and left the game to spawn in the second sea.  When the game loaded I noticed I didn't have my scythe in my toolbar so I opened my inventory and it wasn't in my inventory.  I rejoined the game and it was still missing from my inventory. Can anyone explain why my scythe disappeared from my inventory?
